Many property owners involved in short-term letting experienced significantly lower number of tourists in 2020 due to pandemics. Therefore, in Split-Dalmatia County, 11% of them (3.266 precisely) decided to call off official tourist rental capacities to avoid paying further taxes and fees associated with providing accommodation services in apartments. The biggest fall was in Split (-15%), but this comes as no surprise, having in mind that Split had too many non-competitive 3-star apartments on the tourist market.
Many of the renters have decided to look for year-round leasees and students, rather than risking another aleatory season.
There are still 26.523 active property owners in Split County with the license for short-term rental.
